Staying Groovy: the influence of 1970s festival fashion

When you google ‘70s festival fashion’, the first three rows on Google Images are pictures from the last decade, as in, 2010… This is the personification of the concept that has fascinated me in the years that I have been going to festivals: circular fashion trends. You always hear your mum say ‘MY GOD where did you get that? That’s what they wore back in my day’ when you go out wearing your flared jeans or your floral bandana, or if you’re me…your pink Go-Go boots.

People Make Glasgow - Welcome Home (G-You Magazine)

As a West Coaster born and raised, I consider Glasgow to be my city and I defend it with (probably too much) honour. The people of Glasgow have a sense of community like no other, coming together in the best and the worst of times to celebrate and support one another. Like any city, there are people that certainly don’t fit into the mould of a hearty Glaswegian, but the majority of us gie it enough laldy (give it our all) for the slackers twice over.

Sustainability Ambassadors (aka Green Washers) —

In the fast fashion industry – appearance is key, appearing to care, is key. Appearing to pay your workers a living wage is key and throwing in some claims about recycled materials always helps. The icing on the cake for fast fashion brands, most recently H&M, is appointing a multi-pound ‘sustainability ambassador’ to green-wash the billions of customers awaiting the next sale. The focus on performative activism and the final stage of production is seen as sufficient with the sub-par expectation

New mothers in politics; damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Women in parliament are told that maternity leave is simply ‘not recognised’, and your ‘return to work date’ is day after you give birth. In this context, women who want to choose family ‘over’ work will easily be replaced. As women, we are the only humans who can reproduce, sustain two beings at once, and give birth to this (not so little) being after the most challenging

Dressing Up to Stay In: The Power of Fashion in a Global Pandemic —

Fashion is expression without words. It’s the conversation starter on the street, on the subway or in the nightclub toilets. We don’t judge books by their covers in 2021, but if we did, your outfit is the most accurate cover you could design. Fashion is an art that is celebrated in capital cities across the world every year with a series of fashion weeks attended by millions, keen to sneak a peek at the latest trends. Fashion is a greatly important aspect of human history and culture, and even i

I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it

Access to student discount giant UNiDAYS is one of the biggest perks of becoming a student. As a fresher in 2018, I couldn’t comprehend how we were getting such a big discount on pretty much every fashion brand available! Like many other naive, ecstatic students, that’s exactly what I spent my double SAAS payment on that fateful September. It went on fast fashion, unnecessary purchases and regrets. At first glance, UNiDAYS seems a godsend for the skint student to get some steals from Topshop or

How to be sustainable in the city - a guide for glasgow. —

Sustainable fashion has been the hot topic of 2020, even though it’s been an issue for years, with many people raking through their wardrobes in lockdown and upcycling forgotten garms. Lots of us also profited from increased social media use and free time, creating content and turning normal hobbies into fully fledged small businesses. One of the good things to come out of this year and the time locked-down was increased awareness and publicity around the damage fast-fashion has done to our plan
